Fighting Force (PS1)

Fighting Force is a fighting game in three-dimensional world for PlayStation 1. It was released back in 1997. I remember this game very well. I did only play the demo version of this game back in the day but decided now just some days earlier to give it a try. First I checked if it would be a game that would require a long playing time. As I usually do I went to How Long To Beat and checked this matter. Playing this game through would take approximately three and a half hours.

So, it is a bit of a short game but I decided to start playing it and I already felt it would have something to give to me as a retro gamer and a huge fan of PS1 games. I would compare this game to some fighting games that were released earlier for Sega Mega Drive. Of course the graphics are three-dimensional and better than what Mega Drive was able to offer. Although the playing style, you basically just beat your enemies up, is very similar. You get score bonuses and health updates. You also get to use melee weapons and even some guns and grenades. The amount of ammunition is very limited. Grenades make a very powerful explosions and you often end up hurting yourself also in Fighting Force.

It takes a while for you to get really into Fighting Force. I played the game through with one of the four main characters – Hawk. You also get to choose the difficulty level from easy to medium to hard. This does give this game some replay value. In this game you can hit or kick. Jumping is also possible. You can also try to kick your enemies while you are running to make a kick in the air or try to slide on the ground and hit your enemies. It is necessary to try to pick up health bonuses or weapons that these enemies do drop. You can also wreck your environments. At the end of a level you might get continues if you have gathered enough of a score. There are possibilities at some points also to save your progress which feels comfortable.

There is a bit of a variation between the enemies in Fighting Force. Some of them keep healing and you have to beat them quickly or they will heal themselves fully. Some enemies can hit you with a strong punch and you have to run away from them at times. Some enemies can give you electric shocks that make you hit the ground. It is also important to try to kick your enemy if it gets knocked to the ground for a while. It doesn’t take a whole lot of time to understand these basic tactics when you are trying to beat this game.

Back in 1997 Fighting Force was a new PlayStation 1 game. Now it is a solid peace of gaming history. It was very interesting to go back to this game. You can compare it to some of the greatest games of this era. I am comparing it to maybe the first two Resident Evil games which offered something very similar graphically but that had already a deep plot and some more advanced ways to make the player more involved to playing the game. While Fighting Force is a bit simple as a retro video game it still manages to offer something for a retro gamer and a PS1 fan like myself.

If you have a chance to play this game and you do like PlayStation 1 games I can definitely recommend Fighting Force. Just don’t expect too much of it as a game experience. It sure can bring some memories and also nostalgia to a retro gamer. It was nice to go back in time and play this game for some hours.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider joins my list of finished games in the year 2026. I have beaten already several games this year. What did this Tomb Raider game have to offer and how it was like to play it? These are the questions I am right here trying to answer to you so you can decide if you want to play it also at some moment.

I have to say that it took some time for me to finish this game. I spent almost sixteen and a half hours playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I played it on my Xbox Series X. The game was released already in 2018. It is the third game that we saw on this series of games that started with “Tomb Raider” back in 2013. This game I do remember very well because it was the first game I bought for my PS4 when I got it back in 2014.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider includes some very neat graphical experience. The scenery looks very beautiful. There is a lot of playing with some light effects that makes the screen look amazing at times. The game includes lots of puzzles and also thinking. There are some action and also role-playing elements. You actually get to update your different weapons and your character gets updates too. Everything in this game seemed to work well. The game has received good reviews on Metacritic. The overall rating for Xbox One game is 82 out of 100.

The game isn’t perfect. Some puzzles are frustrating to try to figure out. You easily can get stuck for even some hours to some puzzle that you must figure out to proceed in the game. I felt frustrated also at times in some climbing scenes. I felt down many times and the character died. I have to say that saving a game works decently and you don’t have to replay a part over and over again a lot. This makes the game a smooth one to play.

I can say that I do prefer to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider over playing any of the remakes that have been released just recently. There was the first three Tomb Raider games and also the collection of fourth, fifth and sixth game. I really think that these games were neat back in the day but I really don’t miss the way you had to play them.

There are tens of Tomb Raider games that have been released in the course of the history. The first game that started it all was released in 1996 for PC, PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It was among some of the first games that offered us gamers a truly three-dimensional experience. This was the time in the history of the video games when the games started shifting towards three-dimensional presentation and experience more and more.

There have been already tens of games released in this series since everything started back in 1996. There have been some discussions about the future of the series. We are going to see some Tomb Raider content in a form of some TV series and movies, soon. We are going to see what kind of a future this franchise does actually have. Are we going to see some more games? Time will definitely tell.

Also this game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is currently available for a very cheap price as it isn’t the most newest game. It is also available for PC and PlayStation 4 and 5. I think it offers a solid gaming experience and I do recommend getting into it if you like modern Tomb Raider games. It also reminds me of the game Uncharted 4 that I played through earlier this year. They do have some similar elements.

Resident Evil Requiem

It has been only some weeks since Resident Evil Requiem was released. The game has sold already millions of copies worldwide. I decided to pick up the generation bundle which included also Resident Evil 7 and 8. It did cost some 20 euros more but I am glad that I got my copy as soon as the game was released. This time I didn’t have any problems with the delivery. I don’t know if I am going and when I am going to play the other RE games included. I did decide to install Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade after I finished this game. I soon noticed that it takes 90 GB of space on my Switch 2. That is a bit much since I only have a memory card that holds 256 GB at the moment. So, I might have to buy a larger one soon. I don’t know what I will have to do with all the data and if I am able to setup the larger memory but I guess I’ll figure it out one way or another.

FFVII Remake Integrade is right now installing. This game is getting installed as a “game key card”. This format is something that has become more and more familiar for the users of Switch 2. The format is a bit boring. It does require the card for the installation but holds only so little data in it that you are going to need to rely on your internet connection to actually download the game and finally install it. This is done this way because the card can only hold a limited amount of data. So, it is a physical copy while actually not being a fully physical copy at all.

But now lets get back to Resident Evil Requiem. It is the ninth game in the main series. We did saw some remakes of classic RE games just a while ago. Resident Evil Requiem is a great game. I did spend eleven hours playing it and I finally finished it just today. There are parts of the game that you play with Leon that are kind of action type of part of the game and then you play some survival type of parts with another character called Grace. I think the game is something that fans of the series will definitely like. Also, if you are new to the series I think you will like this game and you might want to check out some earlier stuff in the series. I can recommend playing some PS1 titles as they still hold up even today.

The action and survival parts of Resident Evil Requiem differ in that that you get more ammo and there are more monsters attacking you in the action part while playing with Grace in survival parts requires some stealth skills and tactics since there is not so much ammunition and you will have to think about when you are actually saving your progress. I only played the game on an easy level of difficulty but I think there is more value in this game that can inspire you to play the game through again with maybe a bit more difficult degree.

What more there is to say about Resident Evil Requiem? The graphics look very beautiful on Switch 2. There is a bit of an alteration of the camera mode. It gets switched from 3rd person to first person as you change your character that you play with in the game. There’s lots of weapons. There are some puzzles but nothing overwhelming. I think there is a nice balance with action and survival in this game. I would recommend Resident Evil Requiem for almost everyone. This game is very violent and can be upsetting at times. So, beware that this game has been recommended to be played only by persons that are 18 years old or older than that. This is a recommendation. I think the game can be oppressive at times.
